Update to Dec. 17 A.M. Threat

Dear GWMS Families,

I want to quickly follow-up with additional information regarding the threat we communicated about this morning.

Since the threat was discovered, we have continued to work collaboratively with police. We understand this matter has been turned over to the state’s attorney’s office for additional investigation and determination of next steps.

Unfortunately, we do have to share that we have learned of a second threat. This was posted on a social media site and was quickly reported to school administration and local police. Specific details cannot be released, but we can say that police have said there is no ongoing threat to our community.

Our ability as well as the ability of local police to swifty act upon these threats is dependent upon our community coming together and actively reporting any messages that invoke fear or seek to create harm. We appreciate the ongoing collaboration with our parents, students and staff to keep our schools safe.

We will continue to take any and all necessary steps to protect all of you and our students everyday, as well as seek proper disciplinary action.

I do hope you are able to take some time away to rest, spend time with your families and focus on the good in your lives this holiday season.

I do want to close this message with our continued plea to do the following:

  • Encourage your children to report any concerning message they hear or see in person or online to a trusted adult, school administration or staff member, or police.
  • Please do not promote social media rumors, instead, tell us. This is also an important message to share with your children.
  • If at any time you or your children feel uncomfortable about something you read, something you hear, or something you see please, immediately report it to school authorities or law enforcement.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ted Stec

Superintendent
