Update to Yesterday's TikTok Threat Challenge

Dear GWMS Staff and Families,

Yesterday we communicated about a circulating TikTok post encouraging harm to schools on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021. In response to this, we ensured that the District and school administration, along with our local police departments, would continue to monitor social media and provide an increased police presence in our communities.

Through this heightened response, a threat was discovered and quickly turned over to police. While specific details about the threat cannot be released, police have instructed us that it is safe for school to resume as planned. However, there will be an increase of police presence at school throughout the day.

We do appreciate members of our school community coming forward and reporting the threat. We do not take lightly any type of threat, whether credible or not, to the safety of our schools, and we will quickly and swiftly take all necessary action.

We continue to ask the following of our community:

  • Encourage your children to report any concerning message they hear or see in person or online to a trusted adult, school administration or staff member, or police.
  • Please do not promote social media rumors, instead, tell us. This is also an important message to share with your children.
  • If at any time you or your children feel uncomfortable about something you read, something you hear, or something you see please, immediately report it to school authorities or law enforcement.

Sincerely,

Superintendent Dr. Ted Stec
