Length of Adaptive Pause & Future Steps to Review Current Schedule Model

Dear District 44 Families,

Several discussions took place at tonight’s Board of Education meeting that relate to our return from Winter Break. I appreciate your careful review of this communication, which summarizes the BOE’s decisions for the coming weeks.

Length of Adaptive Pause

We will be implementing a one-week adaptive pause once we return from Winter Break. This means all students will remotely learn from Tuesday, January 5- Friday, January 8, 2021. Monday, January 4 remains an institute day for staff, meaning there will be no student attendance.

Results of Survey

Families had until Wednesday to request hybrid/in-person or all remote. As a reminder, these requests will not go into effect until January 25, 2021. Your child will remain in their current model -- hybrid/in-person or all remote--upon returning from winter break.

Reviewing Our Current Schedule Model

On January 5, 2021, the entire leadership team will meet to review what potential changes or enhancements we can make to our current schedule to address high priority needs that surfaced in our most recent district-wide survey. Input will be requested by staff and parents prior to any changes taking effect. Please look for further communication in January.

COVID-19 Dashboard Updates

The dashboard will continue to be updated daily, with the exception of district-wide non-attendance days (meaning no staff onsite). We also will continue to issue notification letters, but they may be delayed.

Personal Note

As we head into break and the new year, I want to share my appreciation with the families of District 44. Never has your involvement been so critical to ensure our students continue growing and learning during this pandemic. Just as this has been an incredibly challenging year for our teachers and staff, so too has it been for our families. Thank you for all that you have done for your children -- our students-- to build upon their individual successes.

May the year 2021 bring to us a much brighter future.

Sincerely

Ted Stec
