Dear District 44 Staff & Families,
Following our first week back, I know this message finds you on the heels of experiencing a wide variety of emotions. As a community, I have seen how we have come together to make this a positive and supportive experience for our students. However, I am also keenly aware that the question, “when will students come back?” remains top of mind for many - parents and educators. This remains our goal -- to have our students back in our classrooms.
On Friday the DuPage County Health Department and Illinois Department of Public Health released supplementary guidance for school districts to follow to determine when they should offer full remote learning, when they should offer a hybrid learning model (i.e. a mix of both remote and in-person), and then they should offer full in person learning.
While there is still much to be understood and unpack regarding this new guidance, this is one major step forward in determining when we can begin to bring students back. It also must be looked at in tandem with a handful of other critical factors, which are included in the diagram below.
After the Labor Day weekend, we want you to know that we will be communicating with you again regarding where we are with our timeline to reopen schools.
We remain committed to bringing our students back, but doing so in the safest and most consistent way possible for all our stakeholders.
